So, as I mentioned in FIDO, I have lost some excitement for my 2 redraft leagues. I'm kind of bummed because they have been a round a long time and I know each of the fellow owners well. The drafts are fun, but since I'm the Commish of both, that's about the end of the excitement. I've been swamped at work and did absolutely NO homework (except for printing off ESPNs collective live draft results).
I noticed a problem, though. In doing our cuts in FIDO, I thought I had some tough decisions to get to 22. Well, with a 14-man roster in the re-draft league, I found that I overvalued guys based on the fact that I kept them on my 22-man roster. It kind of makes you realize that with 14-man rosters, there is still plenty of time after the first 3 weeks to get the right FAs and make the right moves to make up for a below-average draft. Enough chatter. I drafted 2nd in a 12-man league. Start 1 QB, 1 RB, 2 WR, 1 Flex, 1 TE, K, Def. 6 pt rushing/receiving; 4 pt passing TDs, non-PPR; 1pt/10 yds. QBs: Cutler (6), Rodgers (9) RBs: A. Peterson (1), R. Grant (2), S. Young (7), B. Jackson (11); S. Slaton (13) WRs: L. Fitzgerald (3), G. Jennings (4), P. Crayton (8), K. Curtis (10) TE: J. Witten (5) K: P. Dawson (14) Def: Colts (12) I'm not high on my QBs. The run was early and by the time I picked it was down to Eli and Cutler. I like Denver and expect more from Cutler this year, so I took a chance. I was very pleased that Grant was there at 23 and couldn't pass. Romo and Manning were already gone (as were Moss, Owens, Colston, Burress, Brees) so Grant was the ideal pick, I think. I wish my 2 starting WRs were better than Fitz and Jennings, but I expect a lot from the Packer offense. I mean if a 48 year old guy can get them within a play or 2 of the Superbowl, imagine what a mature backup will be able to do! No depth here at all. Gates was the first pick of Round 5 and I picked 2nd. I had to take a TE there and Witten seemed like the consensus No. 2. After typing it out, I may change my grade to a "C". Like other teams I've seen, this one will need some help. If the Packer and Bronco offenses have good seasons, I'll be fairly happy. Thoughts? |

I wish I had more hands so I could give that draft 4 thumbs down! Haha just kidding... you've got a lot of star power on your team, Fitzgerald and Selvin were absolute steals. Especially if Kurt Warner gets the starts, he had at least 2 TD passes in the final 8 games of last season, and 3 TDs in each of the final four. He turns the ball over a lot, but who cares, that's a lot of TDs for Fitz.
I believe Witten, not Gates, is the consensus #1, and he's the guy I'd take if I had a choice of the two. It'd be nice to have a better 3rd WR, but because it's PPR I think it's not as big a deal, especially with Ryan Grant being your flex start on almost every week. Jay Cutler is going to be just fine. He won't light up the board with 5 TD performances but I think he'll be a consistent 1-2 TD contributor week in and week out. Brandon Marshall is going to make a lot of DBs look like they are the JV scrimmaging against the Varsity this season. Out of curiosity what round did Chester Taylor go, and did you plan to try and get him at some point? |

Thanks for the feedback. I feel a little better.
I certainly targeted C. Taylor. That's where homework may have paid off. I hoped to take him in the 8th as my 4th RB. I drafted S. Young at 7.02. I saw the writing on the wall because we were using CBS.Sportsline and most of those owners use the draft room rankings and take the highest available player at the position they want. Taylor was 2 below Young when I drafted at 7.02. I suspected Taylor would not get back to me at 8.11, but figured a starter was more valuable to me at that point than backing up my 1.02. Having Ryan Grant made me feel better about missing out on Taylor, too. Taylor was taken 2 picks later at 7.04 by a guy who's first 6 picks were Brady, Burress, R. Bush, J. Jones, L. Coles, and the Bears. |

Yea I definetly would have taken Selvin before Chester Taylor. Just was curious because I was fortunate enough to get him at the front of the 9th round recently. I traded away my 8th round and thought for sure I'd missed out on him by taking Shockey in the 7th round, but got lucky and he slid even though he was at the top of the antsports predraft list for a round.

Cutler is a much better option than Eli and I like seeing him in your starting line-up.
Your RB situation with AP and Grant is awesome. Maybe I am finding myself alone thinking that Selvin Young is just another over-valued RB for Denver? There is a really long list of RBs I take in front of him. If he were one of your starters, you would get lower than a B-. The only potential weakness I see is your #2 WR, but you brought in both Crayton and Curtis who I think are solid backup options. Overall, I would have to give this team a B+. ---------- "Let's eat Grandma!" "Let's eat, Grandma!" Punctuation. It saves lives. |
