I had a hard time with this pick. Knowing that 10 of the 11 other teams only had one RB means that at least 10 will probably be gone by my next pick. Looking down my draft board 10 RBs was a little scary. But I couldn't see great value with a RB here.
Going strictly by the VBD I should have went QB. But the prospects down the board there seemed better than at RB. So I went option #3 and with Joe Horn. |

I didn't see another wide receiver here. Strong one two punch for you. |

Glass, I didn't see it either. I had a RB all written in and then backspaced him out. I started to put in a QB and backspaced again. This was a very tough pick for me.
If you are in the mid picks you can disillusion yourself that the guy you want may still be there in the next round. On the end there are no such illusions. You know everyone you have on the top of your list will be gone. |

R. Smith is a GREAT pick here. I remember our last Mock had him going in the 1st round. He was my #5 wide, before I. Bruce, Horn, and even Holt.
Like the pick.... |

Looking over everyones position counts made me choose a WR...Most of you have yet to pick up a WR..and we need 3...so I can wait on 2nd Back and QB..cause the RBs/WRs are gonna move quick at this point...and there are a few good ones left that I was eyeing...Now back to the pick
With a WR corps of Rod Smith and Issac bruce I should be in Yards and TD heaven..With the re-addition of Sharpe and Easy Ed being back (?? have not heard too much on rehab other than 'he's on schedule'..blah blah Shanny talking out his Arse)I read an article about Griese saying he feels like a kid in the candy store again...I actually had him higer on the DB than Horn..about 4 players higher??? Hmm am I missing something about Horn that I should Know or are you... ravage high on him b/c of gut feelings? |

Rod is a very good pick. The problem I have there is Griese's health, Sharpe back in town, continuing questions at RB. Rod and Ed will see less balls with Sharpe in the mix. Not a lot less but enough to let him slip below Horn.

I had Smith higher than Bruce and Holt before the signing of Sharpe too.
But once Sharpe signed and coupled with Lelie as a number three, and Rob Moore there as well, I think the ball is going to be despersed much more this year, much likethe Rams offense. He went exactly where I had him pegged at. I was hoping he would fall to me though. ![]() |

Anyone else not as high on Smith this year either???
I think Lelie and Moore are insurance against what happened last year in the fact they had no backups... [ 06-13-2002, 10:28 AM: Message edited by: Scooter ] |

I'm high on Smith... Why would you think bringing in Sharp will negatively hurt Smith? IF ANTHING, I think it will HELP HIM, but mostly help Griese.
Last year's slump at the end had alot to do with teams realizing ONLY Smith could beat them I think. McCaffrey may not be 100%, so Sharp is a guaratee of taking pressure off of Smith. He'll STILL be the #1 target!!!! I think the new additions only help out the QB, but Smith will still get his. |

Needed to get my last RB while they're still available, I have some sleeper WRs in mind so they can wait but I'll probably be taking them the next 3 picks as that's all I have left.
Holmes- a gamble Bettis- a gamble McNabb- (to a lesser extent) a gamble and I'm going to gamble on all 3 of my WRs unless a stud falls which probably won't happen, so it looks like feast or famine for me. |

Then again if you're like me you don't consider Holmes or Bettis a gamble, they're gonna get their yards and that's what I like, a RB who can get me points every week. Hard to find a RB who will get you points via a TD every week so I look for consistency in yards, lots of 100 yard games as opposed to that 170 one week and 60 the next like ATrain and Corey Dillon.

If you look back to the Denver years when Sharpe was there you can see what to expect from RSmith and Easy Ed. They both stayed at around 80 catches, just at or under 1000yds, and around 7-9TDs.
Sharpe returning to Denver will be very bad for both of them. They are both still solid receivers to look at but don't expect anything close to the production you have seen the last two years. |

I'm actually getting more comfortable with Holmes as well. I really don't see any reason for his production to drop, at least not dramatically. As for Bettis I would stay far far away. I think the Steelers are a MUCH better team with Zereou as their featured back. And Bettis has spent the whole offseason injuried. That usually spells for an injury filled year, especially for a power back.

While I agree those numbers are PROBABLY normal for them, ALOT of that was also because of T. Davis and his TD's. Now they have to pass more, and the RB's are less then what they were.
I do think R. Smith had a career year, and MAY not repeate those great numbers. But, you could say the same for alot of people. If those numbers are the low end - I'll take that probably. Depends on what your looking for I guess. Stud or Consistant type stud? McCaffrey is not what he used to be eithier, nor is Sharp. You can count on him - For 2nd round pick that's good. |

quote:I like Horn alot myself. He has preformed very well for two years in a more power run offense. Now the Saints will be running a much more open, pass oriented system. It seems his #'s should only go up. And going up from 80+/1200+/9+ is pretty good. |

I don't like the Bettis pick either. I think Zeroue takes the ball for Pittsburgh this year with success.

I don't think RSmith is a bad 2nd round pick at all. I was just saying don't expect last years #s.

I had three wide receivers here I was looking at. One I think will be the best might slip to me with my next pick. I am not sure if other people are as high on him as I am.
So it came down between two guys, a very consistent receiver through the years and Glenn, the problem child. I just couldn't ignore his talent when he is going to have a guy like Favre throwing him the ball and Green coming out of the backfield. I really think this could be a career year for him. |

MAN, did I ever have problems after I saw Tim Brown get selected.
I ALSO feel Glenn could and should have a BIG year, but I was VERY hesitant on taking that trouble maker. I may have went RB. With Tim Brown still available, I HAD to get him and my decision was MUCH easier. I wanted consistancy for my risk pick of McAllister. Tim Brown is just that! Him & Owens make a NICE combo! Just hope I can fill my #2 RB later. I feel my plan worked - Instead of McAllister I would have went Boston. I feel Tim Brown is just as good basically with the same amount of numbers. But no way would I have gotton a McAllister type back here. (maybe Taylor yuck[ 06-13-2002, 05:11 PM: Message edited by: HawkFin ] |

Tim Brown was the other receiver I was considering. I didn't figure he would last much after my pick.
Good pick, you know what you are going to get with Brown. The only reason I took Glenn was because of the upside. |
