There are plenty of reasons Delhome won't be of much value this season. A top 15 finish would be good for him. Which doesn't warrant a starting job on any fantaty team unless you start two QBs. His superbowl apreance that he had little to do with (Thanx to defense and the rushing game) has just made Delhome one of the most overrated QB's in the game.

Delhome was 1 win away from being the next Trent Dilfer. He road the coat tails of the defense and running game all year.

Reason 1.
We'll start off with the numbers.

3200 yrds (13th)
19 TDs (12th)
80.6 QB rating (19th)
16 INTS (7th most)
59% completions (17th)
449 Attempts (17th)

Nothing impresive here at all. He was a average QB at best last season and has done nothing to warrent an expected improvment.

Reason 2 - Consistancy (more stats)
Only 2 300+ yrd games
10 games held under 200 yards. (This is BIG)

He's is consistant... in throwing 150-180 yrd games.

Reason 3 - Contract

He signed a HUGE contract that he doesn't deserve. We all know what happens to players who sign big contracts, they either drop off or disapear.

Reason 4 - QB Depth

The QB position is very deep this year yet again.
Culpepper, Manning, Hasselbeck, Vick, McNabb, Brooks, McNair, Plummer, Pennington, Bulger, Favre, Harrington, Green, Gacia, Brady, Bledsoe, B. Johnson, Leftwich, Palmer, and Brunell should all outprocude Delhome without question.
Even if he manages to outproduce 5 of these guys he's still only at 15.

Reason 5 - Run run run
Carolina is Run first offense, proven by the 449 passing attempts last season. With Davis and Foster they will run even more this year.

Reason 6 - Defense
Carolina is one of the better Defenses in the league and will again. And ties right into there ball control offense meaning there will be less opportunity for Delhome to make plays compared to most other teams.

So if your looking for a starting QB look elswhere. Even a spot starter is a stretch for Jake, at least until he can throw for more then 200 yrds on a consistant basis.

Delhomme will be a valuable fantasy qb this season.

*Delhomme ended on a strong note last season, passing for 200 yds.+ in 5 of their last eight games. He also threw 11 td's in the second half of the season.

*Delhomme proved that he could get the job done while under pressure. Just remember the very exciting finish to the nfc divisional playoff game vs. the rams. Delhomme threw a long td pass to win the game in the second ot. Then in the super bowl, against arguably the toughest defense in the league, Delhomme had an outstanding game. Compiling 323 yds. with 3 td's and 0 int's.

*He began a nice click with Steve Smith last year. Delhomme and Smith ended the year on very good terms together, as smith had 18 rec. for 400 yds. and 4 td's in just 4 post season games.

*The running game will get d's to pile up the box, and will allow Delhomme single coverages to smith and his other recievers.

*He will be a top 8 QB and will provide quality #'s to whoever grabs him on draft day.

YDS OPP Defensive Ranking
191 vs NYG (25)
260 vs DET (28)
236 vs ARI (29)
153 vs ATL (32)
216 vs PHI (16)
175 vs DAL (1)
317 vs WAS (14)
277 vs TB (3)

200 yds a game isn't anything to be proud of. Especiall whe schedule was this soft. The last 4 games of the season were against 4 of the worst D's in the entire league.

Delhome played very well in the SB. But I wouldn't base anything on that game. What was expected to be a defensive battle was quite the opposite as it turned into good ol fashioned shootout for both sides.

A very nice post season for Smith and Delhome last season. But that doesn't do any good in the regular season. That's just not the offense the Panthers run on a regular basis.

This is the default argument to use when attempting to talk up a running game, and vise versa. It simply never happens, NFL teams makes adjusments on a weekly basis and prepare for the defensive fronts and schemes they will have to face. And defenses mix it up as much as possible to keep the offense out of rythme.
If someone puts 8 the box and the passing game starts to roll, how many series do you think it will take before the defensive changes?
In the end Car will favor the running game as usual

TOP 8, I hope that was a typo Eek
