Lav Coles is the player in question.
wbfoley is FOR Coles being a valuable fantasy WR this season Glassman is AGAINST Coles being a valuable fantasy RB this season Do your best to convince us your side is the right one. "He who has begun has half done. Dare to be wise; begin!" --Horace |

Lets start with last year:
82rec 1204yds 6TDs A pretty solid year last year for Coles. He did most of his damage with Ramsey though as his production fell off towards the end of the year with Hasselbeck. The Skins rushing attack was horrid last year with Bung topping the list with 600yds rushing causing teams to tee-off on Ramsey(leading to his injury). Offseason Acquired: Mark Brunell, Clinton Portis, James Thrash, Joe Gibbs A major overall has takin place in Skins territory. A new coach, new QB, and a new RB are the major pickups in the offseason. Portis gives the Skins the much need RB to take pressure off their QBs. The Brunell pick up did kind of puzzle me because I thought Ramsey did a good job with no RB or OL. Gibbs has been out of football for quite some time(12 yrs I believe), but he still knows how to win. Benefits Portis - He will provide the Skins with the running game they desperately needed to achieve some balance in their attack. While Portis will cause the Skins to run a bit more than pass, Coles should be on the receiving end of a lot of long passes, since the defense will need to respect Portis. Brunell - I would prefer they stay with Ramsey, but I can't see how they will stay with him after paying Brunell that amount of money. Brunell will get you the yards, but not the TDs. Gibbs - While he seems to run the ball more, he can still air it out with the right talent(see Monk, Clark, and Sanders). He will bring a much more balanced attack, which I believe will help Coles out in the long run. Bottom line Coles's numbers should improve slightly under Brunell(80rec 1300yds 7TDs), but would do much better with Ramsey(90rec 1400yds 9TDs) at the helm. Either way I can't see how Coles production would drop barring an injury of course. |

Lets start with the obvious. This team is pretty much going to start over in every aspect. New offensive and defensive coaches and schemes. When this happens, it usually takes a quarter of the season to get everybody on the same page. That is one thing that hurts him.
Second, they finally will have at worst a respectable running game. Gibbs will not give up on the run in the first quarter, and he will use the backs to kill time when he has a decent lead in the second half. With Gardner still there and a couple of other very respectable #3 receivers, I can't see Coles getting the same amount of opportunities to catch the ball as last year. Even with all the receptions he had, he still only managed one more touchdown than Gardner, who seemed to always be the red zone target. Gardner had only 600 yards, half of what Coles had, but just over 20 fewer receptions. Coles was the homerun guy and he just doesn't find the end zone enough. So lets recap. A new offense that is going to be much more run friendly that last year, a receiver that the club seems to throw to much more in the red zone than Coles, and fewer balls to come Coles way. I don't see anyway possible Coles comes close to matching last years numbers. When putting your top 10 receivers together, I don't see Coles fitting into that group. He is in the next tier. **************************** Official Fantasy Insights fan of the 2006 World Champion St. Louis Cardinals. |
