First, a qualifier or two.
1)Davis is not a top 5 RB. 2)He can't be compared to the likes of Priest or Tomlinson. 3)He's not even a top 10 RB. Or maybe he is. Let's look at this a bit. OK the top 8 consist of Green, Edge, Taylor, Priest, Ricky, McAllister, Tomlinson, and Alexander. If Lewis isn't in jail, he's in there somewhere too. Some may add in Portis but I'm not sold on any Broncos' RB with a new team. Product of the system or talent? Faulk? Come on he'll be lucky to play in ten games. What about other starters? They are either sharing time and carries with another RB, rookies, injury prone, getting old, or just plain aren't that good. Domanick is young, will carry the load, and is on a team that needs to run to save their QBs backside. In starting only 10 games last year Davis tied for 15th in rushing yards and tied for 13th in rushing TDs. Add in a few more starts and you're looking at at top 10 numbers in both rushing and TDs. Also he was 13th in "big play" rushes. Good enough for a start. I'll be back. *********************** A committe is a life form with six or more legs and no brain.-Murphy's Law |

This is a tough one so here goes.
Is he valuable? not as a starter but maybe as a backup or for trade bait I think he is about as valuable as a Rudi Johnson. I wouldn't draft either very high because they were both serviceable but rather inconsistent. inconsistent in fantasy football is not valuable. Back to Davis Davis started 10 games (not great and he did not have much competition) He played pretty good once he got the starting nod witha couple of good games but I think he only had 2 100yard plus games. He didn't look too good against good defenses and over the last 4-5 weeks he only got above 75 yards rushing once (99yards against his old team Indy) He did score 8 Td's right? that's not bad considering he only got the start in 10 games but I am not in a TD only league and yards are very important What would make him valuable is, if you get him late. If he fell into the later rounds and you had your starters (assuming 2) already, you could do worse and he might be a valuable back-up. However, he is not valuable as a starter. I consider starters valuable because they are consistent. Davis has yet to prove to me he is consistent Heroes are the people who do what has to be done when it needs to be done, regardless of the consequences. |

I do not have much time but do not like to have my battles fought for me so I better post something.
The first concern I would like to bring to light is Double D's size. He is 5'9" and weighs around the 210lb mark. Which is scary petite for an every down all-purpose back. At this size he is going to get bumped and bruised... Domanick suffered from a broken right hand, strained groin, bruised chest, sprained left ankle, and bruised right quad. That list of injuries cost him "only" two regular season games and a month of preseason work, but the quantity of maladies in one campaign is a concern. Gotta go for now. |

quote:You can list all of these injuries to make it look like Davis is injury prone and I'll tell you it had me half convinced myself until I did some checking. Here is a list of maladies reported by reported by a couple of other RBs. RB #1-calf, 2 weeks of hip, 5 weeks shoulder, and foot. 0 weeks missed RB #2-knee, 7 weeks groin. missed 3 games. RB #1 is Priest Holmes RB #2 is Corey Dillon You can't just read a list of injuries to tell if a player is injury prone. These guys report everything so the team doesn't worry about being fined. And we are talking about a RB who is in the 3rd or 4th tier here. Look at the rest of the RBs who he could be compared to they missed just as many or more games. Or they are in severe RBBC situations. Last year Davis did lose about 3 weeks of the preseason to a broken hand and I believe that cost him the starting nod over Stacey Mack. But at least Davis broke his hand playing football and not answering the telephone. Also this year Davis and Carr will have the preseason to get used to each other and that should help both of them. Last year as the starter Davis only had 3 games with Carr playing the whole game. Do I think Davis is a stud? No! I do believe that he is your best option after the top 9 RBs. He is at the top of that group of RBs. Don't pass him up or you'll regret it as he breaks into the top 10 RBs this year. It might only be at #10 but he'll be there. *********************** A committe is a life form with six or more legs and no brain.-Murphy's Law |

I think this is a rare instance where there isn't much to debate about. Domanick is a young starting running back with solid potential.
He isn't proven enough to draft as high as the top ten or so guys. But once you reach the 12 or so RB mark when all the guys have some question, he is an excellent pick. I could try to tell you that Tony Hollings is on this squad. Whom the Texans spent a second round selection on (higher than Davis). But that would be just silly. No one has seen Tony play much at RB so arguing that would be stupid. I could say that David Carr is still a young inexperienced QB that may at times allow teams to stack the box against the run to slow Davis down. But I personally believe Carr to be a young up and comer and going into his third season and I think he will be pretty good. The Davis/Carr/Johnson trio of youth could be one the best combos in football today. But I do think he is an injury risk. I don't care about Holmes and the rest of the guys Woodstock mentioned. Priest got a hella scare last year with his hip. And Faulk is injured every game so those two as examples of same size guys is kinda silly. Davis did miss two regular season games and most of the preseason. And he did this with a fairly light load. He has to get stronger and smarter or he is going to be on the sidelines enough to frustrate any owner who gambled high on him. Bottom line: Davis' youth and situation all assures him of second tier RB status. Anywhere from 12-17 in RB rankings would seem to suit him just fine for now. |
