It was beautiful this morning. We woke up to temperatures over 40, about 43. I didn't even make my daughter wear her snowpants for her walk to school. My son likes to wear his, I don't get that at all.

Now as I'm getting ready for work I hear about school closings west on Madison on the radio. What? Oh I know it's supposed to get cold tonight but closing the schools?

So my wife checks the school closing and the weather. Sure enough my kids will be coming home from school early today. The projected storm is moving in early with freezing rain and snow coming. Not only that but we are under a winter storm warning and a wind chill advisory for tonight. Yup, that's right after starting out the day at 7am with 43 degrees we will have temps below 0 tonight with a wind of 25-30 below.

Gotta love Wisconsin, if you don't like the weather wait 5 minutes.

Hit 70 in St. Louis at 11:00. Just talked to the better half, and it is now snowing and in the 30's.

While the weather can be quite volatile in WI it's quite rare to have a 40 degree difference in 1 day. Any you can't blame them for closing schools, it was pretty nasty around 3:00pm with projected sleet and ice storms. Not something you want you a busload of kids driving around in.

But don't worry, it'll be back in the toasty 30's in no time.

We ended up with a tornado warning tonight in freaking January!!! Apparently one was touched down NW of where I am and did some pretty substantial damage. It was quite the ugly line of storms that passed thru about 7:15/7:30 but luckily it missed me other than some pretty freaking cool horizontal rain and hail that I watched out the back window.

63 here about noon, currently down to 20 and winds make it feel like 4. I called my wife from work and told her to dress warmly for the evening and she thought I was joking. 1 hour from my home to work and a difference of over 20 degrees at the time. Crazy.

Why do we trust the same people to tell us about global warming that can't get the weather right for this coming weekend?

Earlier in January we had tornados here in Wisconsin for only the second time in recorded weather history. Recorded history was either 1840 or 1860. Nutty weather.

Yep, we had one touch down in Harvard, at the IL-WI border that took a tanker car off the railroad tracks. Weird.

After our second ice storm in 2007, leaving most of our area w/o electricity anywhere from 1 to 10 days (5 days for me), we had a string of tornados come through our area that hardly even made the news, mostly due to the flooding it caused, which caused a boil order for the city of Joplin that lasted over 5 days, the first time in history that the whole city has had that happen. Oh, and of course, we had the temp change yesterday, too, accompanied by the 50 mph winds. Not too bad today, though. About 30 but no wind.

Still cold here. Most of the area schools got called off due to wind chill today. As of 10am it's -8 with a wind chill of -28.

They just started calling off school for wind chill in the last year or so. Whimpy kids, Wink I had to go to school in this crap.

We ended up with the second largest 1 day temp change. Went from a high of 73 to a low of 9. People from my work said there was a hail storm at 11 followed by sleet and snow by 3.
