Well, it's getting to that time of year again. This is in a 12 team dynasty league that I took over last year. Finished 3rd this past season. Had a very strong WR corp but my RB's could use some improving. Start 2 RB and 3 WR. Standard scoring with bonuses for long TDs and 100+ yd games.

RB: Ronnie Brown, D. Foster, DeAngelo Williams, Fred Taylor, Ricky Williams (lol)

WR: Javon Walker, Burress, Darrell Jackson, Jerry Porter, Terry Glenn, DJ Hackett

Which of those WR's would you be more inclined to trade away, considering this is a dynasty? I think Walker and Burress are definite keepers. I love DJ, but he's on a new team and he's getting older and has an injury history. Then again, he's still the #1 on the new team and SF could have a decent offense. Jerry Porter didn't play last year and he's on a crappy team, but he's now the #1 and is younger. Arguments to be made for both. Also, I would assume that DJ is more attractive as trade bait. Agreed?

Finally, I'm looking to acquire Brandon Jacobs. What are your thoughts on him? Will he get the majority of the carries? Will he do well? Is he the long-term answer in NY? I like him a lot, but curious what other's opinions are. I know it's a little early for some of this, but could use the help for this trade before our rookie draft. Thanks.

I'd be inclined to move Glenn and Burress, but Jackson would be open to offers also. Age and a new offense will work against Glenn and I suspect Eli and Plaxico being on the same page AND spectacular is a reach.
I traded away Jacobs in my dynasty before last season's draft to move up five spots and draft LenDale, so what do I know? He should be in line to be valuable in a TD only league and prably no better than a low second RB, best as a #3 o#4 RB on your roster.

Problem with Glenn is that no one is interested (even though he was ranked #20 amongst WR's last year in our scoring). So do you like Porter better than DJ? Better than Burress? You think DJ still has good value in a dynasty league?

Some other RB's that I could potentially go after. List the ones you like or don't like.

T. Jones
Jones-Drew
Jamal Lewis
A. Green
Norwood
Marion Barber

Do you really think you could get Jones-Drew with what you have? You must think much less of him than I do. He averaging about the 12th pick in most drafts this year.

Well, he's still not yet the starter. There's no question his value is up given what he was able to do last year in his reduced role. So, probably not.

Is that DeAngelo Williams and another Williams (as in Caddy) or just DeAngelo?

I see the need then.

T Jones looks like the only realistic one there. Most people undervalue him. I would think Jones-Drew, Norwood, and Barber would have too high a price tag. It looks like you're looking fo youth rather than a one year fix so Lewis and Green would be out as well. So between Jones and Jacobs, I'd probably rather take a chance on Jacobs than get Jones with his somewhat known ceiling.

As far as who to trade, I think I'd rather have Jackson than Burress. Same level of experience. I'd list Porter below Jackson and Burress. Too many things have to go right for him. He has to perform, his QB has to perform, and he has to be happy.

It looks like you're still a year away.

Just got offered Vincent Jackson and #5 rookie draft pick (I have no draft picks currently until 4th round) for Burress.

With that pick, I can grab either Bush or Henry, likely. Thoughts? Better than the above?

I think I like that. I still have trouble judging dynasty value but they put up roughly the same stats over the last 4 games (once Jackson was starting), both are the same size, and Jackson is much younger. I guess it depends how you view Jackson. I think you've seen the best of Burress. I don't think it husts you at WR, even if Jackson doesn't continue like his last 4 games. If Burress puts up his average (about 60/1000/7), you won't lose much with Porter, Glenn, or Hackett replacing him. Plus, you get a shot at RB youth for free.

Exactly. That's how I saw it too. And this is VJ's 3rd year, the supposed "breakout" year. If it doesn't work, I still have 2 capable backups. And as you said, a free shot at RB youth. I'm assuming Peterson, Lynch, and Calvin go top 3. My next 2 would be Bush or Henry. You think any others should go higher?

Also, now that I did this trade, would you still consider the original trades above for a short-term solution or stay put with this trade? Can I afford to lose both Burress AND DJ? Do I need to?

I meant to say that as well. I don't think doing this deal necessarily precludes you from doing the other deal. I don't see why you can't do both. It's much easier to find (or trade for) a starting WR. I still like Jackson, though. When he plays, he plays well and is a #1. If you can unload one of the other 3, I don't think it hurts you at all (you may find someone looking at Hackett the way you're looking at Jackson).

Looking at the thread right below this one, there are 2 posts with the rookie picks listed. Neither has Bush or Henry going before Russell or Quinn. This is hard for me to believe but it will depend upon how your league views RB's. But, if both are there at 5, you may get a chance to trade down and pick up an extra pick.
