I have Bernard Berrian, who has been a major bust so far. Some earlier reports were that he was suffering from Jackson's poor play. Is it worth keeping Berrian to see how he plays with Ferrotte? I have also seen reports that he is having ankle/foot/toe issues as well.

As a side note, I am playing league on Yahoo and there are thousands of teams dropping Berrian already.

I heard Berrian on Sirius yesterday or the day before. I believe it was a toe issue but he specifically said it wasn't turf toe. It sounded like turf toe. He said it would be with him all year and he had it last year as well. He somewhat dodged the question as to whether it affects him.

The evasive interview made me think I didn't want to be anywhere near him.

I have a feeling Minnesota's offense is about to get quite a bit better. I watched the first couple games and Tavaris Jackson is horrible, or at least he played horrible. Jeff George could move the ball down the field better than this guy.

I have been following this very closely on another board, so I will include some comments from there:

"Peyton Manning would look bad at QB if he weren't allowed to audible (which Jackson isn't due to Childress arrogance) and the play calling was so predictable that Dan Dierdorf is actually announcing what play they are most likely to run time and time again on national television. And, he was right! That makes it pretty easy to defend.

Also, if you think the audible thing is only because Jackson is inexperienced, think again. Childress did the same thing to Brad Johnson when he was starting Jackson's rookie year.

Childress is just a flat out idiot."

and

"...defending him a little because more of this should lay on Childress' shoulders. We heard it directly from Brad's mouth that Jackson was a 3 year project when they drafted him. Now, 2 games into year 3 he gets benched? I'm not saying that I've seen any greatness in him. But, Childress has done more to hurt his development than to help it. It's Childress' fault here and I don't expect the team to look all that much better with a QB change. Until the play calling by Brad changes and audibles are allowed, the team will under perform their talent level no matter who is the QB."

I posted those because I don't know enough about the situation here to make a judgment call on Jackson himself. He was discussed on the other board a lot during this off-season and that pretty much embodies the sentiment I have been seeing.

And one more:

"If Childress really wants to do a service for the Vikes, he'll bench himself."

Clearly that can't happen, which means the blame has to be placed on someone on the football field. So when Frerotte has the same struggles or whoever else they wheel in there, perhaps we need to start pointing the blame somewhere else.

This isn't the first season where there have been problems behind center for the Vikings. They go back to right about the time that Randy Moss went to the Raiders...

Will Ferrotte make the WRs in Minnesota better in some ways I hope so because I own both Rice and Berrian in a dynasty. But I just don't know. Experience is on Gus' side but he may not have quite the pure talent. Then again maybe he does.

There is one thing I know, any knowledgable NFC North football fan (who isn't a Vikings fan) hopes Childress stays in Minnesota a long time. No matter how talented the team is, with him at the helm the Vikings will fall short of what they should.

Much like Wayne Fonts, Bart Starr, and Dave Wannstedt the other teams know they have just a good of a chance of winning due to coaching stupidity as they do of beating them on talent.
