Alright guys, beginning to get my initial rankings ready as we get close to camp. I had all three of these guys last year and they all basically came out of nowhere. Can they repeat it again? I fell in love with them last year and you know that Fantasy Football love is definitely blind.
Wes Welker - I considered him the third guy in the beginning, kind of like when Stokely outscored Harrison and Wayne for a while. However, he catches so many balls, even if Brady comes back a little, he should still put up good numbers, don't you think? Ryan Grant - Initial thought is no Favre hurts him, but then again it could force the Pack to run even more. I'm thinking if Rodgers is any good at all, Grant should still be very, very solid. Derek Anderson - Can he be as good as he looked last year? You know the Browns won't hesitate to put in Quinn if they think he's better, but I have to think Anderson gets a lot of rope to start the year. Plus with a good run game and Braylon, Winslow, and Dante Stalworth to throw to, I can't see him falling on his face. I haven't looked at schedules yet to see how these teams are matched up, but I'm excited about all three of these guys again. But drafting with your heart is never a good idea...so I thought I'd come to the source and see what you guys think. Thanks. What do we need a scoreboard for? We haven't scored any runs all season. |

I definately like all three guys. Welker could not be in a better situation. He is in a passing offense that uses his abilities and he will continue to see 7-10 balls a game thrown to him as the #2 WR.

I agree with the Welker situation, I don't see this guy having a bad season anytime soon. I love the way he plays the game and although it will be tough for him to match the numbers he put up last season, I see nothing but consistency from him in the near future. Even in a bad season for NE, I think he could put up 80-90 receptions and 900-1000 yards pretty easily.
I like Grant a lot also, but there are definitely questions about the offense. As for DA, you have to figure that if Brady Quinn shows anything at all in camp or during the season that they will give him a shot in the next couple of seasons or move him. Cleveland has definitely lined up plenty of talent for either QB to be successful though. |

I hate Welker but everyone is absolutely right. I don't see his production dropping, at least not much.
Grant is a mystery. The vets are saying that Rodgers arm is better than Favre's was the last couple of years. We all know that it takes more than an arm to be productive enough to take pressure off the running game. But Grant is the main man but at least two others will see time. I think he'll put up very good numbers for the year and have a couple of fantastic games. Anderson will have a good year. I guess I'm not as worried about Quinn as most. |

I agree about Welker.
Grant will produce again, reason being is GBs zone blocking scheme. You don't need to be a stud RB to put up good numbers in that scheme. Rodgers does have a better arm than Favre over his last few years and he's far more mobile and has had plenty of time to learn the offense. The only thing stopping him from producing starting FF QB #s will be his health. I'm iffy on DA. Not because of Quinn, but he kind of reminds me of that guy from Pitt who put up good numbers out of nowhere for a year and half (can't remember his name). DA was a nobody during pre-season and had a soft schedule last year. They have some nice weapons but I believe their schedule is much tougher this season. Plus it's CLE, no offense skip, but you have to question their ability to continue winning. |

Tommy Maddox?
So Rav what's the story with Welker, why the hate? |

It's irrational and illogical. Therefore unexplainable but I doubt you'll find Welker on any of my teams. |

Welker hit his ceiling last season, but in that offense he is still good for 90+ receptions with ease.
I like Grant as a top 10 back. Look over his game logs. The guy was a madman over the last 10 weeks. I got shouted down on another site about this comparison - but look at Larry Johnson the year before he took over the full time role. Aside from a few more TDs, some striking similarities. Yet I find Grant is going later in most drafts than he deserves to. Personally I even like him better than Lynch who some have as high as about #7. As a Browns fan, I hope DA has a great season. He's got the tools around him, for sure. If he struggles, I could see him getting a quick hook in favor of Quinn. This is a team that is solid enough to make the playoffs. If they lose a couple games early, a quick change could happen. It did last season for the better after just 1 week. DA's leash will be a bit longer than that and he should have some success. ---------- Why do we trust the same people to tell us about global warming that can't get the weather right for this coming weekend? |

I think Grant starts off slowly, because teams are going to have eight in the box until Rodgers proves himself. I'm high on Rodgers, though, so I think he'll keep the passing offense rolling enough so that teams will eventually drop the eighth guy into coverage, which will lead to a bigger second half for Grant.

I don't know kab, I think Driver, Jennings, Jones, Nelson (if he pans out), and Donald Lee will prevent anyone from stuffing 8 in the box, regardless of the QB. Heck, I think Driver and Jennings alone is enough to prevent it.

I just dont see teams being able to put 8 in a box with the set of WRs GB has. Driver, Jones, and Jennings spread the field no matter who is QB. Rodgers showed some skill when he filled in for Favre the one game and so I think teams will hang back until Rodgers proves he cant get it done. He is a gun slinger and so teams will have to drop both safties back just to protect against those WRs. |

Here's a thought.
We all know that Rodgers is following a legend, including GB's coaching staff. The last thing they want to see is Rodgers try to do too much and fail. They will do everything they can to make Rodgers successful. Now I don't know which of the following this will mean, maybe a combination. GB could rely heavily on the run to put Rodgers at ease. The other option is those same routes that made Favre successful last year. Short routes that the WRs turn into big gains. I don't see a lot of deep balls being thrown which may lead to a lot of guys being closer to the line of scrimmage but not necessarily 8 in the box. |
