Last years stat line: 82-1130-2

My suspicion is that Cotchery is a guy who is easy to dismiss simply because he doesn't show up among the elite players. Still, there are some telling numbers there.

#5 Jericho Cotchery. What can we expect for 2008?

The Jets were as bad as they could be last season. The fact that Cotchery still put up decent numbers makes me think that what we saw last season is the floor for him. I would think the Jets offense should be more consistent this season, so I'll go ahead and say he gets around the same yardage with five or six TDs total. A solid number 2.

With the QB situation in NY still not 100% certain, I'm not sure how much you can read into Cotchery's numbers this season. The Jets made a lot of offseason improvements, but I still don't think they are sold on Clemens and I'm not convinced that he can get the ball down field to allow Cotchery to fully use his speed. I have a feeling that we'll be seeing possibly 3 different guys at the QB position this season for the Jets this season and this could really keep the offense off balance.

Figured I'd better get a comment in before Gian goes crazy on his man-crush in this thread Big Grin

Yeah, the QB question makes me pause, but they were pretty weak at the position last season. I don't really see it getting much worse, even if their rookie QB ends up seeing the field. The improvements elsewhere hopefully prvents that from happening, but if not, I think he'll at least be able to repeat last season's numbers.

He should repeat last seasons easily. He's been an underrated WR the last couple of years and I think he's on the verge a breaking out. His offensive surroundings may be what holds him back another year but he's a great #3 FF WR that you should be albe to get quite late.
I don't think I would want to rely on his as my #2 just yet. He has the ability, just not the team around him to do it.

It isn't always about what the QB and WR do in the game, it's about who gets the reps and can build rapport/timing with the WR's in practice.

More QB carousel with a third, rookie QB added in the mix actually sounds like a recipe for a worse year to me.

At least last year he had one guy (Pennington) getting all the first-team reps for the first half of the season. This season there may be a different guy getting first-team reps at QB every week... or worse, multiple QB's getting first-team reps in a given week.

I'll keep it toned down, but there's little not to like. Back to back 82 catch seasons and 1000-1100 yds shows he's probably not a fluke. As pointed out above, the fact that their passing offense really can't get much worse is encouraging. The fact that he seems to get a lot of his stuff late in the game and in 3rd down situations tells me they trust him when it counts and he does deliver in those situations. Also, a healthy Coles helps him out I believe.

His #'s would have been much better last year except for his 2 TDs. The things is, only 2 TDs with almost 1100 yds receiving is an anomaly. Even if he's not the RZ target, only 3 times in the history of the NFL has a WR gone for that many yds and had 2 TDs or less and Cotchery's season last year was one of them. He may never be an elite stud, but I can see him putting up 80/1100/7 pretty easily which makes him a solid #2 and along the lines of a H. Ward (in his prime) or D. Driver type in production.

Cotchery is a tough one for me. I know he put up very good numbers last year but for some reason I just don't believe in him.

I know I won't have him high enough on a draft board to get him. But if I weren't biased I would expect a repeat of last year's numbers to be well within expectations. The QB situation may not be ideal but it wasn't last year either, so I really can't see that making as much of an impact as some seem to think it will.

So basically I'm saying if you're smarter than me draft him.

Cotchery will likely be drafted later than he deserves to be. If the TDs were there, he would easily move into a #2 WR role on a fantasy team.

In a league which requires 3 WRs, he's a great option to have as your #3 because his floor is definitely there with room to be a lot better.

I like what the Jets are doing on their lines, but their QB situation could hold back the TD production for now.
